Good atmosphere but puzzles need work
I enjoyed the horror part of the game. Some might think the jumpscares are a bit cheap but most people have become so jaded over the years that its pretty much the only way to keep me them on edge.
The puzzles really need some additional going through though. There is too much pixelhunting in dark enviroments and some item are needlessly unobtainable until the game dictates otherwise. The latter wouldn't be so bad if you could atleast interact with the items initially but as is the player will disregard them as part of the background.
I also think two of the puzzles actually have errors in them. Unless some form of bizarro maths were used the third and fourth digits of the "correct" safecode should be switched. Also the text your supposed to reference in a puzzle doesn't have an eight row, though that one shouldn't get the player stuck atleast.
Finally puzzles that require a lenghty redo if failed preferably shouldn't include trial and error elements. Though I guess its possible that I missed some reference to symbols earlier in the game.
Good but unnecessarily repetitive at the end
Overall this is a very wellmade and entertaining game if you are into more oldschool difficulty. However the boss encounter really did not need the "redo the level if you die" criteria and that is sure to annoy all but the most hardcore masochists.
Repeating an entire level can work if some of the following opportunities are provided: improving your speed, improving your health left or random elements creating a new experience. The final level in this game is basically a fixed speed transport stretch with fixed enemy positions that are easily memorized. After finishing it once or twice it becomes completely redundant and in practice nothing but a glorified one minute game over screen.
Very good and challenging game. The only issues I have are these: sometimes uneven difficulty, repetitive music (ingame volume slider is good but then you cant hear sound effects either) and the reset button. Either put in passwords or move reset further from the menu button. I accidentally clicked on menu instead of reset at level 17 and didnt feel much like redoing the entire game because of it.
One of the best flash games ive ever played. Like a cross between Contra and Abuse. I think it deserves a much higher score than it has right now but I guess alot of people dont like the difficulty level.
Gameplay is close to perfect, nonvariable jumpheight is the only issue I find worth mentioning. Thankfully the game usually avoids situations which would have you cursing the lack of it. Random bats and archer placements sometimes made for near impossible situations but they do help in making a runthrough different each time so I guess its a tradeoff. Hit detection is as far as I can tell excellent and I only encountered one minor glitch with a downwards moving block.
More variation in music and more detailed graphics would be nice of course. But those are very minor points compared to gameplay, which is what makes this game better than the vast majority.
We were trying to keep the file size as small as possible. But will have more enemies and better graphics next time.
